Hi,
I have tried to hide troops a couple of times but do not seem to get the button to do so. I understand that it is only certain troops, Ulans, Jaggers for example. Is there a time they have to be in a position or some other thing I have to do first?
thanks for any help.

I thought the buildings were just there for decoration! Can you put troops in buildings in Napoleon and if so how?
thanks for any help

There are only certain buildings you can put units in;they show up as a yellow house on the minimap. The others are just for decoration. To get inside the house (it'll have a symbol like a rectangle with an arrow through it hovering above the house),select a unit, hover your mouse over it until it changes to the symbol above the house, and right click on the house. If you hover your mouse over the house,it'll also tell you how many men can fit inside it.

I generally find, though, that buildings that can garrison troops are usually more of a hindrance than a help (unless they're behind your front line). In my own experiences, the enemy will make a mad rush to engage the troops inside the building in melee, completely ignoring the rest of my army.
And if you're on the defensive (such as inside a fort), it can get pretty aggravating to have throw your forces in to help out or surrender the building to them. So unless I've got lots of troops to spare, I usually leave them empty.

Their also useful for "Last Stands" in multiplayer when your opponents artillery is dead.

Sometimes, when I try to put more than one regiment in a building, it won't let me. Say it's a big building which supposedly has room for 760 troops (so it says), but it only allows one regiment of 120 troops to enter. How come?

No, the buildings are undamaged. I've even had the same problem when such buildings are available in the deployment phase. Could it be the difficulty level?? I usually play at VH/VH.

Well, that's funny, because I had the same problem with Empire. No matter how big the building was, I could only ever garrison one unit inside (or two for the very large ones). However, with Napoleon, it works fine for me, and I can pack in as many units as will fit.

OK <<blush>> I should have said that it was with Empire that I had problems with putting more than one regiment in battlefield buildings. I still haven't bought NTW, and forgot that I was browsing the NTW forum when I made that post.
