Besides having more movement points than line infantry in campaign map? Well, I found out that they are very handy when you are ambushed by superior enemy!
The resolution is unfortunately low since my laptop cannot handle the higher graphics of N:TW, but here are some pics. (finally learned to take screenshots)
Near Alsace-Lorraine, the French baited me with a small forces shown on the top left and as I waltzed over there like a bumbling Pruss, a huge army ambushed me from the south.

Surrounded by superior numbers of dreaded French infantry and the deadly 12 pounders, my only hope was to break through one end of the tightening noose and make a stand. Even then, my fortune was not looking good--if I had brought regular foot artillery with me. Luckily these speedy Horse Artillery had kept up with my army and I managed to establish a solid defensive perimeter which quickly became a meat grinder. Even with my beloved Prussian Fusiliers, I wouldn't have held back the French but the canister shots from my Horse Artillery tipped the scales in my favor.

The French were utterly routed and I was free to continue my march on Paris.

This was the one time where Horse Artillery really shined. Soon, I switched over to Howitzers but the lesson had remained.
